The city formerly known as the city of flowers, for many years it was considered the most important exporter of beautiful roses and other decorative plants grown on the surrounding terraces and under the greenhouses of local growers. Thanks to the very active campaign of politicians, governors and local benefactors like Orazio Raimondo and Mario Calvino among many others, since early 20th century the city of Sanremo has been shaped one of the most visited places in northwest part of Italy and in this part of Europe as well.

They brought Sanremo to the world of cinema and they organized first Milano - Sanremo cycling competition. Finally they expanded railway connection with neighbouring France to help English speaking tourists reach the city, and they put Sanremo on the summer destination map along with Nice and Cannes.

Health, Rest and Activities

Their idea was to offer “Health, Rest and Activities”* while utilizing all the beautiful natural surroundings and hot-summer Mediterranean climate - similar to that of French Riviera.  Health, Rest and Activities – this still remains very true today, and locals, through their daily business, continue to fulfil the mission that was sketched over 100 years ago.

Sanremo’s Nightlife

During the night, the heart of the city is a triangle between Munic ipa l Casino, Bresca Square and Gioberti Street also called “la via della musica” (the street of the music).  The latter one is the youngest and very successful summer initiative of city council, local artists, musicians and pub, restaurant and bar owners from Gioberti street. Here, people enjoy their meals and Craft beers along with Rock and Jazz music being performed live, at least twice per week under the open sky.
